There's a creature I will not name from a game series I will not name. It uses its id as a random seed to decide where (and if) spots appear on its body. The method used by the game in question is overly complicated and not worth replicating. However! From this example's failures, we can learn! So! It would be cool if Pals had multiple patterns. But! It does not need to be billions of patterns. It does not need to change the Pal's entire coat. It does not have to be a huge difference at all. Maybe a different head plumage on a bird or different tusk shapes/sizes on mammoth boi or antler shapes/sizes on the various deer mounts. Different tail shapes for the fluffers. Floppy ears instead of stiff. Different eye shapes. Different haircuts for everyone's favorite "Pal" from the desolate church. Slightly different outfits for the losers that shoot at you.
Another game series I will not name features recruiting, raising, and fusing monsters. Monsters in that game series often have a size stat, which literally scales them bigger or smaller. It also affected stats in different ways in each of the games but that's not useful to me so I'm ignoring it. It would be cool if, beyond just lucky and alpha Pals, pals could be different sizes. Perhaps that could even be used by their AIs, with larger ones being more aggressive and smaller ones being more likely to flee. Idk I just wanna see more variety and personality.
Hopefully we get more of the alternatively typed pals too, I love them so much. The second game series I mentioned often made "new" enemies by just changing the color and elemental affinity of a pre existing monster. This is genius imo and I love seeing it in Palworld. I doubt the devs will see this, I just wanted to find a place to discuss hypothetical cosmetic differences Pals could have if Pals had multiple patterns like a certain panda.
